Congratulations on your pregnancy! My name is Keli and I am a Philadelphia Birth Doula. I work with expecting parents in the Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey surrounding area, providing birth doula support throughout pregnancy, labor and birth, and the postpartum period. I am a DONA International trained birth doula and certified Hypno-doula.  I offer guidance and unconditional, non-biased support while providing you with information and encouragement. I am also a certified Hypnobabies childbirth education instructor, prenatal and postnatal yoga instructor, and volunteer with the Philadelphia Alliance for Labor Support and Operation Special Delivery. Learn more about my roll as a birth doula here.

The birth of my niece Harper was the birth I attended in December 2008.  I look back at the experience as one of my fondest memories and a life changing experience.  Seeing my niece come into the world made me passionate about learning and understanding the birthing process.  Through my prenatal yoga teacher training I learned more about birth and the roll of birth doulas. Soon after I enrolled in the DONA birth doula training. It has always been important to me to work in a field that I am passionate about and to make a  positive difference. Doula training took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota and it was an eye opening experience. I returned to Philadelphia where I completed the remainder of courses required to become a certified birth doula.

Childbirth is one of the most special and empowering events in a woman’s life. Childbirth is transformative and an experience that a woman and her family will carry with them forever. It is important for every woman to look back and remember her births with love and positivity, and as a very powerful moment in her life. I am honored each time I am invited to support a woman during her pregnancy and birth. The doula is a unique part of the birthing team. I am hired by the birthing couple to serve the laboring woman. My roll as a doula is focused on what the mother and couple needs so that the mother can rest assured that her physical and emotional needs will be met throughout her labor and birth. I work with you before labor and delivery answering questions about what to expect, providing information and your options for you to make informed decisions, assisting you in developing a birth plan, teaching you active labor postures and techniques, therapeutic relief, along with providing continuous support during labor and birth and the initial postpartum period.  During labor and delivery I provide continuous, knowledgeable physical and emotional support and answer questions you and your partner have about what’s happening. I support you in whatever birthing environment is right for you including hospitals, birth centers and home births.

Women who have continuous one-on-one physical and emotional support during labor generally reduces the use pain medication and epidurals, may help shorten labor by many hours, lower the chances of cesarean surgery or a forceps or vacuum-assisted delivery. A doula may also improve breastfeeding, bonding, and greater satisfaction with the birth experience overall ~ all of which contribute to a lesser incidence of postpartum depression. The doula provides emotional support and reassures the mother both prenatally and during labor.

I believe that everyone is entitled to and deserves to have complete, caring, and continuous support in regards to the type and the setting of birth they choose.  Finding the right doula is as much about chemistry as it is philosophy. I am committed to supporting expectant parents no matter what their financial circumstances. I work with a team of birth doulas working in all price ranges, based on their experience, training, background and services offered.  I am grateful for the support received from all of the families I work with, fellow doulas and birth workers, the yoga community, and my family.
